A grim connection

John Bazarnik was an important witness in the trial against Thomas Bianco, testifying Bianco admitted he may have killed Julie Monson. When Bazarnik married in 1987, Bianco was in prison for the murder, and Bazarnik’s best man was Frank Calescibetta, brother of Thomas Calescibetta, the prosecution’s star witness, who also testified that Bianco had admitted to killing Monson.

The flower girl in that wedding was a young girl named Katie Socci.

Socci, a neighbor of former county Judge Peter Corning, was killed June 15, 2011. She was strangled, and her body was found in a wooded area off Dunning Avenue.

A Cayuga County grand jury indicted her former boyfriend, David McNamara, in her killing, but the indictment was thrown out amid claims McNamara was denied his right to appear before the grand jury. That decision has been appealed.
